Personal Statement
I started using public libraries as an avid reader at age six. In high school and college I worked as a library assistant. Prior to receiving a degree, I organized a library for St. Augustine's College in Nassau, Bahamas. These early life experiences inspired me to pursue a career in Library Science.
The distinctively American philosophy of libraries providing open and publicly supported access to information is a democratic ideal important to me. Having accepted leadership responsibilities in a number of libraries and business organizations, I believe I have learned how to work for libraries from within and as external critic. What unifies my career is a personal dedication to libraries. I'm a life-long member of the American Library Association and my professional life is consistent with my personal value system.
